From the Director ARIIA Knowledge and Implementation Hub
The last few months have been busy as the Knowledge and Implementation Hub (KIH) team delivered a new topic and got involved in promoting the role of the Hub at the ARIIA Conference and more broadly.
Clinical governance describes the leadership behaviours, policies, procedures, responsibilities, relationships, planning, monitoring, and improvement mechanisms that facilitate safe, quality clinical care and good clinical outcomes for each person using aged care services. It is a fundamental responsibility and reaches into all parts of care.
The Hub now provides a research update based on a rapid narrative review of published research literature and resources identified from an environmental scan of Australian sources for clinical governance. We have also put together a list of Australian initiatives and are seeking information about any projects or research relating to clinical governance that are underway in the sector.
The KIH team had a chance to be involved in the ARIIA conference and share with conference participants the work we have been doing. This provides us with valuable input from the sector on how knowledge is used in practice. We also heard about many initiatives and perspectives on aged care and learned from older people, from people working in aged care, from organisations and services, and from other researchers.
Keep your eyes open for our new knowledge campaigns which will start next month as we mobilise the KIH evidence developed in the priority aged care topics and make it available through social media. We are also interested in hearing about your experiences, successes, and failures in interacting with technology in aged care. For example, have you seen an increase in the use of technology in aged care since the COVID-19 pandemic? Who is involved in selecting, testing, and providing feedback on new products in your workplace? You can share your experiences via our feedback form on the Technology page. We look forward to continuing to build this topic as the digital transformation for aged care unfolds.

Preparing for implementation: From the problem to an evidence-informed solution?
In the previous edition of KnowledgeConnect, we described the dynamic nature of knowledge translation (KT) and the need to engage with stakeholders throughout the translational process. In the case study we presented the initial phases of a KT project to improve the care of older people who present to hospital on a frequent basis. Having explored the problem and identified possible solutions through a series of co-design workshops with older people and service providers, the next step involved synthesising the co-design findings with relevant research to develop an improvement intervention that could be implemented and evaluated in a real-world setting.
